چکیده

The pancreas plays a critical role in the control of nutritional homeostasis. It consists of two major parts, the exocrine pancreas, which releases digestive enzymes; and the endocrine pancreas, which releases hormones such as insulin, glucagon, pancreatic polypeptide and somatostatin and maintains glucose homeostasis. Cells in the endocrine pancreas are organized in pancreatic clusters of cells, the islets of Langerhans. Within the islets, the β-cells, which secrete insulin, are the predominant cell type and comprise approximately 70% of the cells within the islets. The remaining cells consist of α-cells that secrete glucagon, δ-cells that secrete somatostatin, and cells that secrete pancreatic polypeptide. The main function of the exocrine pancreas is to aid in digestion by secreting digestive enzymes and bicarbonate into the duodenum. The exocrine pancreas consists of only two major cell types, namely acinar cells that synthesize, store and secrete digestive enzymes; and ductal cells that secrete chloride and bicarbonate. Both parts of the pancreas are innervated by the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system, with separate pathways regulating the exocrine and the exocrine pancreas. In this chapter, we provide an overview of the central neural pathways that control the pancreas and the main neurotransmitters expressed in these pathways.

The Effect of High Intensity Intermittent Training (HIIT) on GLP-1R Expression in Pancreas Tissue and Serum Insulin of Male Wistar Rats with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Objective: Insulin secretion and insulin resistance are associated with incidence and severity of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This study aimed to assess the effect of high intensity intermittent training (HIIT) on GLP-1R expression in pancreas tissue and serum insulin of T2DM rats. Materials and Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, T2DM induced by intraperitoneal injection of strept...

Intelligent blood glucose control in diabetic patients: design and simulation of an artificial pancreas

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a common chronic disease with diverse complications. About 10% of the earth's population suffer from this disease. For smart control of the blood glucose in DM patients, an artificial pancreas was designed and simulated by a predictive sliding mode controller considering the time delay of insulin effect. Method: In this method, one of the time-delay glucos...

الگوی ارتباط بین بیان نسبی TCF7L2 بافت پانکراس با تغییرات انسولین به‌ واسطه تمرین تناوبی در رت‌های دیابتی نوع 2

Introduction: Both environmental and genetic factors have been implicated in the development of type 2 diabetes (T2D). The objectives of the present study were: 1) to investigate the effect of high intensity interval training (HIIT) on fasting glucose, insulin and TCF7L2 expression in pancreas tissue of T2D rats, 2) to determine the relation between TCF7L2 expression with insulin changes in the...

The changes of serum insulin in response to resistance training with emphasis on FOXO1 in pancreas of diabetes rats

Introduction: Decreased insulin sensitivity and its secretion of pancreas increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes (T2D). In the present study it was aimed to assess the effect of resistance training on Forkhead box protein O1 (FOXO1) expression in pancreas tissue, serum insulin, and insulin sensitivity in obese rats with T2D. Materials and Methods: T2D was induced by high fa...
